Libel & Slander

If someone wrongly besmirges you either by written word (libel) or spoken word (slander) you may possibly have a legal action against them.

If the offending behaviour from another person or organisation has caused you serious harm or serious financial loss, as defined by the Defamation Act 2013, they may be liable for defamation.

If so, you could claim payment of damages (legal financial compensation) from them and a public apology (through a statement in open court for example).

Much will depend upon when the defamation was made, how much evidence you have of it and the extent to which you were effected by it.
